People think feminism means that there’s a group of women somewhere that want to take trousers with pockets away from men and give them to women, and give men trousers with fake pockets, while in reality feminism is the general idea that everyone should have trousers with pockets, because pockets are awesome.
“In the 1890s, when Freud was in the dawn of his career, he was struck by how many of his female patients were revealing childhood [sexual] victimization to him. Freud concluded that child sexual abuse was one of the major causes of emotional disturbances in adult women and wrote a brilliant and humane paper called “The Aetiology of Hysteria.” However, rather than receiving acclaim from his colleagues for his ground-breaking insights, Freud met with scorn. He was ridiculed for believing that men of excellent reputation (most of his patients came from upstanding homes) could be perpetrators of incest.
Within a few years, Freud buckled under this heavy pressure and recanted his conclusions. In their place he proposed the “Oedipus complex,” which became the foundation of modern psychology… Freud used this construct to conclude that the episodes of abuse his clients had revealed to him had never taken place; they were simply fantasies of events the women had wished for… This construct started a hundred-year history in the mental health field of blaming victims for the abuse perpetrated on them and outright discrediting of women’s and children’s reports of mistreatment by men.”—
i know it was like a year ago that you said it, but if you could talk to me about the pevensies being different facets of peter i would just about be a complete person.
I don’t remember saying that at all but it definitely sounds like something I would say so let’s just go with it
So Peter is the most obvious Peter parallel, and not just because of the shared name. He is the head, the High King, and eventually he is the one entrusted with the golden key to the world that locks Narnia forever and ushers in the new kingdom. He is Peter the rock, Peter head of the church, keeper of the keys—sometimes I forget Lewis wasn’t a Catholic because it’s such a clear Catholic Peter sketched out in the visage of a young boy.
Susan is the one who fears and questions and doubts and stumbles, in small ways, but also consistently the most practical and cautious of the four. She is the Peter of the bulk of the gospels, where he is the one who asks the “dumb” questions, but leads the disciples, makes sure they are looked after, is their mouthpiece and their representative. (It’s also worth noting that Peter is the only one of the disciples for whom old age is mentioned in the Bible—John 21:18, “Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” WHO DOES THAT REMIND YOU OF)
Edmund is Peter’s betrayal and return, a wiser and more sober judge, the learning of compassion that only those who have known sin and forgiveness can. Edmund betrayed his family, himself, by denying Narnia and thinking only of himself—this is Peter by the fire, denying knowing Christ and then returning, penitent, kinder. Just.
Lucy is the childlike faith and acceptance of God that prompts someone to walk on water, to follow a scruff Jewish prophet in the first place, and then name him the Son of God. Lucy is faith without stinting or flinching.
And so they rule together, at least until Eustace (who is obviously Paul) and Jill (who is…I don’t know) come along.
I’ve said this before and I’ll point it out again -
Menstruation is caused by change in hormonal levels to stop the creation of a uterine lining and encourage the body to flush the lining out. The body does this by lowering estrogen levels and raising testosterone.
Or, to put it more plainly “That time of the month” is when female hormones most closely resemble male hormones. So if (cis) women aren’t suited to office at “That time of the month” then (cis) men are NEVER suited to office.
If you are a dude and don’t dig the ladies around you at their time of the month, just think! That is you all of the time.
And, on a final note, post-menopausal (cis) women are the most hormonally stable of all human demographics. They have fewer hormonal fluctuations of anyone, meaning older women like Hilary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren would theoretically be among the least likely candidates to make an irrational decision due to hormonal fluctuations, and if we were basing our leadership decisions on hormone levels, then only women over fifty should ever be allowed to hold office.
